AEROSPACE
Hallmark was selected by European Space Manufacturer
Astrium to produce Surface mount and conventional component
Printed Circuit Board Assemblies and complex wiring
Harnesses for the BEAGLE 2 Mars Lander. Several orders
were awarded all of which required the rapid production
of Prototype and advanced stage development units for
the project. It was Hallmark’s proven track record
for delivering demanding fast turn-rounds to the high
level of quality required, right first time, on time,
that convinced Astrium that Hallmark was the right company
for its requirements.
AUTOMOTIVE
Hallmark has manufactured high tech multi-layer Rigid
and Flexi-rigid printed circuit boards and electronic
component assemblies for Five Formula 1 racing teams.
Every year as the current racing season comes to a close
and throughout the winter until March you will find
Hallmark working around the clock producing a wide spectrum
of “on car” applications, enhanced electronic
circuits and new cutting edge innovations all of which
must be built, tested and if necessary further reined
to meet the rigorous deadlines for Car testing and ultimately
the first Grand Prix of the new season.
PROCESS IMPROVEMENT
Hallmark was approached by IBM and asked to participate
in the production of specialised and highly technical
Flexible Circuits. Hallmark was to work closely with
personnel at IBM’s plant in Havant to develop,
refine and document the process. This project was executed
in three phases. 1) Process / product development and
production ramp up, 2) continuous production 3) a controlled
ramp down and hand over to IBM’s own production
facilities. The project took from start to completion
just over 18 months. IBM personnel were on site working
side by side with Hallmark personnel throughout the
duration and the plant was visited several times by
senior managers from the USA.
DEFENCE
Hallmark was recommended by a UK customer to a major
USA Defence contractor supplying strategically important
products to the American Navy. After several meetings
Hallmark was awarded a “Supplier Development Contract”.
For the following 18 months Hallmark worked closely
with its partners to develop on site production capabilities
for the production of technically exacting circuits
for use on the Navy Program.
DESIGN TO DISTRIBUTION
New ‘start up’ products brought to Hallmark
by two new innovative companies have seen the development
of extensive research into the feasibility of prototyping
and production manufacturing. Each project is completely
different in comparison and from two completely different
industry sectors. The first feasibility project is a
recent order for 5 off prototypes for the full buy and
build and despatch of a finished, tested Mass Spectrometer.
This has involved from scratch participation in PCB and Mechanical design, project management, component
purchasing to culminate in the final built and ready
for test, before despatch of the units.The second project
involved Bluetooth Technology in its design and operation.
A very clever design concept, capable of great performance.
The ease of operation and savings in installation has
made it a must in all stage theatre / concert lighting
situations.
We were approached with a working sample but with still
a long way to go before it was ready for manufacture.
With the involvement of both our conceptual and layout
engineers, work commenced on re-work of most of the
operating logic, PCB layout and mechanical design. After
successful operational trials to prove the systems performance,
a regime of rigorous testing was applied for functionality,
EMC, PAT and a final soak test to prove reliability.
Cost out savings in the design and design for manufacture
process; have enabled our customer partner Hallmark
in the supply of batch manufactured monthly quantities
of this unit.
